Ringing in 2020 with Anneka and Brendan’s New Years’ Eve Space Gallery wedding was an epic way to begin the year. Anneka and Brendan are two of the most chill clients I’ve had the pleasure of working with. These two originally met a couple of times when dating others or when they had other big life plans happening. It took a couple of times for them to hang out before they became good friends. Eventually, they went to a New Years’ Eve party and over some beers, at Crave Brewery in Asheville, North Carolina, they finally began talking and haven’t stopped since.
Brendan is a network engineer and the default IT for their entire family as a result. Anneka is a family nurse practitioner and loves her adolescent patients the most of all (not everyone loves teenagers!). When I asked them what their favorite things about the other person were they had some sweet answers. Anneka said, “I love Brendan’s dry sense of humor and propensity for dad jokes and puns. I love that he will walk the dog in the cold and the snow and let me stay snuggled up on the couch. I love how mellow and unbothered by things because I am super type A and he helps me chill out. I love that if a friend is in need, Brendan will be there for them, no matter what. But most of all, I love that he is my partner, always.” Brendan told me, “When Anneka and I first met, I was initially drawn to her mystery. Who was this girl who traveled to Africa on medical missions, kept the hours of a vampire (night nurse), and was educated in a far off land (Canada)? I was hooked by her intelligence, her intensity, and by her smile. I love her for a million and one reasons, but I look forward to our future together because she brings out the best in me.”
These two were just excited to celebrate on New Years’ Eve, which was a special day for Anneka and her dad who passed some years prior to the wedding. It was also very important that Kal, their dog, was in attendance. Dog people are my people. There were many tributes to her dad throughout the evening including her red converse shoes that both she and her sister wore. At the end of the evening, they added an unusual tradition of eating grapes as the clock struck midnight. Something Anneka said was a tradition from Spain and that her dad did many holidays before. I loved seeing her abundant love for her dad throughout every aspect of the wedding. It was a great way to spend New Years’ Eve.
