If I had to pick my top photography business tools for 2021, I’d have to narrow it down to only a shortlist. Back in the day, I loved to blog about my top 20 or even top 10, but the reality is that many photographers had to cut back on their expenses due to the pandemic. So this year I’m only sharing my top 3. These are the 3 things my business could not survive without.
- Shootproof – I can’t actually be sure how long I’ve been with Shootproof. What I do know is that I should be approaching roughly 7 years, possibly more? I found Shootproof early in my career and while I deviated for a couple of brief periods to try out other services that I won’t mention here, I always came back to Shootproof and eventually realized there was no reason to even try other companies because Shootproof was just that good. Shootproof is an online gallery program for photographers. It may have started off as mere gallery software, but it has since morphed into so much more. Now it’s like gallery hosting combined with an incredible set of marketing tools. Not only that, but it can also take care of some of the behind-the-scenes business stuff like invoices and contracts for you too.
- Táve – Like Shootproof, I did explore other options for the type of service that Táve offered. I have tried numerous other companies. The biggest reason that I came back to using Táve this year is the people behind it. Táve is owned by Shootproof and while Shootproof itself is amazing, the people and company behind it are truly the top reason it stays as one of my single-most used business tools. Now that Shootproof owns Táve I can’t imagine using any other software to manage the behind-the-scenes business stuff like contracts, email automation, invoices, and so much more. The people behind theses companies either are or once were photographers themselves and as a team, they care deeply about ensuring other photographers’ success. They work hard to provide free education and support for photographers all over the world. I am so excited to be back with Táve this year and am actively working on moving over all of the parts and pieces of my business right now.
- Showit – The last on my list of tools for this year is Showit, an amazing website-building platform that I’ve been with since roughly 2012. Showit, like the others listed, is incredibly invested in its the betterment of the photography community by providing educational experiences on top of a website-building platform that just can’t be beaten. I’ve been building websites since about 2004 and I’ve used many different platforms. The fact is, Showit cannot be beaten. Not only does it provide a static website builder that I’ve used for this very website, but it also combines the power of a WordPress blog, which is the best blogging platform I’ve used in my 16+ years of website and blog building. Showit is one of the easiest website platforms to use and customize. I cannot imagine using any other tool out there. It boosts my SEO, and is very easy to update and manage on my own.
