Collaborations

After numerous years as a blogger receiving pitches from companies and people, here are 6 things I must see in order to give a pitch for a partnership, speaking event, or collaboration opportunity my time.

1. Emails addressed to me personally - Hi, my name is Carrie! Maximize impact of your email by ensuring I know your message isn’t the same exact one you send to all the other folks out there.

2. Collaborations where someone has researched what I do - Personalize your message with information you’ve found after reading through my website and learning a little bit about me. Not only does this catch my eye, but it makes me feel like you care about who I am, what I do, and like I’m more than just a means to an end for you.

3. An equal offer in exchange for the investment of my experience and time helping you - Collaborations need to offer an equal benefit to both parties. If you’re asking me to link to your products, mention them, or do anything that helps you with your marketing efforts, you should offer something in return. 

4. Products and services relevant to what I do - Take the time to read around and see what I’m interested in and share with my readers and followers. I want to share and collaborate on things that are relevant to my readers. As an autistic, ADHD, neurodiverse master beekeeper and gardener, you should know those are topics relevant to my followers and I. 

5. Authentic opportunities - One of my former businesses was a blog that had 9.5 million readers. It grew fast and its success can be attributed to the personal stories, narratives, experiences, and vulnerability I shared with my followers. I believe blogging and social media is most successful when the content comes straight from me. As such I don’t accept guest blog posts and will do product reviews honestly. I want the things I recommend to my readers to be content and products I actually use and love. The best marketing comes from people truly passionate about what they share.

6. Advocates for all identities and cultures - The world normalizes young, white, thin, cisgender, heterosexual, and able-bodied people and considers anything else ‘other.’ I am committed to changing that narrative and redefining normal as diverse and inclusive, and I need to see you are too before I speak at your event, promote your product, or collaborate.
